How can I support you non-financially?

There are many ways to support us without having to part with money. The easiest way is follow us on our social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter) and like, share and comment on our posts. This will help boost us up the algorithm and will also mean our messages, events and support will reach a wider community outside our followers!

If you have some spare time or a particular set of skills that you are able to share, then please get in touch and we can add you to our volunteer’s chat. Our events rely heavily on as many pairs of hands outside our committee. We are regularly on the look out for people to join us at community outreach events, make or build things we can use at events, or just help us set up on the day itself!

I am a business, how can that support you?

There are several ways a business can help us financially or non-financially. If you have an expertise skill (Legal, financial, Marketing, education, dancer, singer etc) then we could utilise your time with assistance in paperwork, advice or a performance at a community/fundraising event instead of a financial donation. If you are small, independent business, then maybe we could use your storefront to advertise our events, sell some of our official merchandise or maybe you could donate something for a raffle to help us raise money for future events. Maybe you would like to sponsor us, there are several ways for business to get involved, but this all starts with you reaching out to us and letting us know how you can/would like to get involved. We will also have specific sponsoring packages available on our website shortly, so keep a look out for these! You can contact us via email on abergavennypride@hotmail.com

Where will I find out about Pride events throughout the year?

We will share all our information on our socials (Facebook and Instagram) and there will also be a page dedicated to the events on our website (abergavennypride.co.uk). Here you will find out about our stallholders, information stalls, food and drink vendors, performers and everything else about our event.

Can I get all the information in a Welsh Language format?

We are currently looking for a Welsh language translation service or translator that is willing to volunteer and translate for us. If you are interested, and have the experience to do so, then please contact us on our emails at abergavennypride@hotmail.com

Why do we have a Pride in the Community?

Coming together as a community to declare our unity has become more important than ever, as we continue to face the challenges of those around the world who would take the LGBT+ community back to the days before decriminalisation and equality. But together with Pride, we can keep moving forward, celebrating, campaigning, and connecting.

Does this mean there are going to be queues to get in?

Due to location and licensing constraints, we have a maximum capacity that is allowed on site at any one time, and it’s looking likely we may hit those numbers again this year. As this is a free, non-ticketed event, there may be times during the day we’re unable to let any more people in until capacity allows again. Please be patient if this happens. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the day. If the queue is looking long, we encourage you to check out our amazing town! There are plenty of options of shops, food, and drink that we’re sure will keep you occupied while things are quieting down a bit.

Do I need to bring cash?

You will be able to pay by card or cash for drinks at the bar. We also advise bringing some cash as some stalls may only take one or the other.

What about ID?

The bar will be running a Think 25 policy during the day, so ID may be required to purchase alcohol. The After Party is strictly over 18’s only, so ID will be requested on the door.

Are Children Allowed?

Yes. It’s an event for all the family. The Kids Corner will have plenty of activities for children, including a storytelling and music making session. Please note that children must be always supervised. There are baby changing facilities available in The Tithe Barn. The lost child point will be our information stand found in the Prince of Wales courtyard next to the Abergavenny Pride Merchandise Stall

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own food and soft drinks only. Strictly no alcohol is to be brought on site, there will be a bar.

There will also be a range of hot and cold food provided by Origin Pizza, Bean & Bread and Shepherds Ice Cream and Taco Taco Taco available for purchase on the day with Vegan options. However, if you have specific dietary requirements, we recommend bringing your own food.

Drinking water and refills will be available free of charge from the kitchen – if you are bringing your own bottle, we will also be able to refill these.

I am not LGBTQ+ can I still come to Abergavenny Pride?

Absolutely, Pride is open to everyone. Whether you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community, an ally, or just want to learn more about what Pride is all about. Everyone is welcome!

What are you doing about recycling?

We will have 2 recycling points throughout the venue. This year we must separate all our rubbish on site due to a change in laws by the Welsh Government. Our recycling facilities have been provided by MCC, who will then ensure that the waste is recycled in the appropriate way upon collection after the event.

Can I bring my own chairs?

Yes, we will be providing some seating, but you are more than welcome to bring your own camping/folding chairs if you like.

Can I bring my dog(s)?

Yes, well behaved dogs are welcome in outdoor areas only. Not inside the Priory Centre or The Tithe Barn (except Service Dogs). We will also have water bowls on site for any thirsty doggos. The forecast is looking warm for the day though, so please take this, as well as crowds and sounds, into consideration – we don’t want any panicking pups!

What was that about the forecast?

We never quite know what to expect in our lovely Wales climate, but its currently looking to be a warm one! Remember to drink plenty of fluids, bring sunscreen and hats to protect yourself from the sun.

I would love to volunteer – how can I do so?

If you’d like to help us out on the day, or support us in any other ways please get in touch via our social media (Facebook, Instagram) or email us at abergavennypride@hotmail.com

I’m a professional Videographer or Photographer, can I film?

Due to the sensitivity of some of our areas within Pride, we ask for all professional or amateur videographers, or photographers to contact us before the event and let us know what you would like to do at the event and your reasons for doing so. We can then arrange for you to be a part of our official list, and have an identification lanyard, for people to identify you. It will also mean that we can then let you know about any concerns or people that do not want to be captured.

If you lose or find anything on site, please report it to a crew member or volunteer. We will be around site and wearing yellow lanyards, as well as our information stall in the main courtyard. This will also be the collection point.

Out Of The Closet FAQs

What is the purpose of Out of the Closet?

The purpose of Out of the Closet is for everyone to explore their gender identity and gender expression in a safe space. The space is featured upstairs away from the main event, Trans and Non-Binary will be on hand throughout the day to assist and can also share any real-life experiences.

Why do you have an Out of The Closet feature?

This concept was borne out of necessity and was developed via conversations with schools and youth groups within Abergavenny, who stated that there wasn’t any where in town or the surrounding areas for them to do this. Even though this was borne in conversation with young people, this event is open and free for all ages, not just young peoples.

Can I take the clothes away with me?

Yes, yes you can! All the clothes for the Out of The Closet have been donated by the lovely members of the public in Abergavenny and the surrounding areas, which means that you can take as much or as little as you want/need to ensure your wardrobe makes you feel like the best version of yourself.

What happens to the clothes leftover at the end of the day?

All the clothes left over will either be taken and shared across the charity shops within Abergavenny Town Centre or donated/stored to be used at future Out of The Closet events sponsored by Abergavenny Pride. Last year we held a further 2 separate Out of The Closet events – 1 at Usk Youth Pride and the other at Welshpool Pride.

I would like to hold an Out of The Closet section at my event, what do I do?

Out of the Closet is something that is very close to Abergavenny Prides heart. If you would like to hold this or something similar at your event, please contact us at abergavennypride@hotmail.com and we will talk you through the whole process and what you need to do ensure that this follows the same ethos as intended.
