February

February Edition

Its that time of year again when we observe LGBT+ History Month in February and this year’s theme is LGBTQIA+ People in Medicine and Healthcare. #UnderTheScope

The 2024 theme celebrates LGBTQIA+ peoples’ contribution to the field of Medicine and Healthcare both historically and today. It will aim to showcase the amazing work of LGBTQIA+ staff across the NHS and in other healthcare settings, in providing healthcare, especially during the pandemic. Whilst still shining a light on the history of the LGBTQIA+ community’s experience of receiving healthcare which has been extremely complicated leaving LGBTQIA+ people still facing health inequalities even today. At a time when the LGBTQIA+ community is experiencing a rise in hate crime and hate instances we also encourage you to look ‘Under the Scope’ and listen to LGBTQIA+ peoples’ lived experiences from LGBTQIA+ people.

You will find more information and resources from LGBT+ History Month 2024 – LGBT+ History Month (lgbtplushistorymonth.co.uk) – look out on our socials for more information throughout the month.

Although this month is about looking to the past we should also be looking to the future, so with that in mind here is a list of Local prides that have been announced for you to start your planning early 😊

Fly That Flag

The aromantic pride flag consists of five horizontal stripes, which are (from top to bottom) green, light green, white, gray, and black. The flag was created by Cameron Whimsy (Tumblr user cameronwhimsy[7]) in 2014.[8] The green and light green stripes represent aromanticism and the aro-spectrum. The white stripe represents the importance and validity of non-romantic forms of love, which include friendship, platonic and aesthetic attraction, queerplatonic relationships, and family. The black and gray stripes represent the sexuality spectrum, which ranges from aro-aces (aromantic asexuals) to aromantic allosexuals
