What's going on in the world?
Pride is still as important today as it was way back in the 1970’s when the Stonewall Riots changed the way we were going to be treated within the world. Awful things are happening everywhere – so here is tiny round up of some of things happening around the globe.
- 04th – Carmen Xtravaganza – the iconic Paris is Burning actor and ballroom icon – passed away at 62.
- 13th – 2 men stabbed outside Two Brewers in London in a homophobic attack
- In what seems to be a paradoxical universe – CHESS – has decided that trans women can no longer participate in women’s events because they have somehow decided that what you are assigned at birth makes you innately smarter than others
- 18th – Lauri Carleton – a businesswoman in Lake Arrowhead, California, was shot and killed for flying a rainbow flag outside her store.
Its not all doom and gloom in the queer world as there are still some good news stories happening as well – here are just a few we think should be celebrated.
- Top Comedian, Tom Brady, comes out as Pansexual saying he’s “living his best life”
- Wendy Guevara makes history as the first trans woman to win a Mexican reality tv show
- Zaya Wade – a trans model – has partnered with Puma’s forever classic campaign, after walking for Miu Miu at Paris Fashion Week and modelling for Tiffany & Co’s all gender bracelets – another mainstream win for Team Trans!
- Spain’s first Trans Senator, Carla Antonelli, pledges to protect Queer & Trans Rights
- Pride flag mounted on top of world second highest peak, K2, for “Queer kids dreaming of own mountains”. This is in a country where same-sex acts are criminalised in a bid to inspire other LGBTQ+ athletes.
- Germany approves self-ID to make transitioning easier for Trans people.
- UK primary school, in Glasgow, praised for embedding vital LGBTQ+ education into all teaching – lets hope many others will follow suit.
