What's going on in the world?
Pride is still as important today as it was way back in the 1970’s when the Stonewall Riots changed the way we were going to be treated within the world. Awful things are happening everywhere – so here is tiny round up of some of things happening around the globe.
- Bigots are on the rise across the world with more and more stories coming out everyday such as, the Cork library being put under pressure to remove all LGBTQ+ books, a pastor in the US smashing a Barbie dream house with a bible taped to a baseball bat
- Britain’s Equality watchdog, says its acceptable to misgender or deadname students, and schools are not required to follow the students wishes and that sex is binary, and they would not be found to be discriminatory.
- Suella Braverman says that refugees fearing persecution is “insufficient” for UK asylum, meaning LGBTQ+ people around the world will no longer have safe refuge in the UK.
Its not all doom and gloom in the queer world as there are still some good news stories happening as well – here are just a few we think should be celebrated.
- Elle Hungary puts gay dads on the cover in defiance to the Governments Anti-LGBTQ+ Agenda.
- Married at First Sight on Channel 4 welcomes their first Trans contestant to the 2023 line-up.
- California passes a law to ensure that no LGBTQ+ books are banned in schools.
- LGBTQ+ representation in film reaches an 11-year high – GLAAD reports.
- Paw Patrol spin off introduces a Non-Binary Character!!
- After a PREP rollout scheme in Amsterdam, HIV cases drop to almost zero, which could see this scheme expanding across the world.
